The exhibition titled “SHE” features a series of images of unsmiling woman’s faces. The expressionless portraits do not give any indication to the viewers of their state of emotions. Ian Lambot arrived in Hong Kong in 1979. After stints running an architectural model-making studio and working with Foster and Partners – on the early stages of the Hongkong Bank project – he set up Watermark Publications, publishing in the years since numerous books on architecture, engineering and design, including four volumes on the work of Norman Foster and, of course, City of Darkness: Life in Kowloon Walled City. He now lives in the UK, where he continues to design and publish books on subjects that interest him.

The conducting arena has long been male-dominated. Female conductors are often told to emulate a more masculine manner in order — to be taken seriously. Yet social protocol did not deter Yip Wing-sie from pursuing her dream. At the age of 26, she became Resident Conductor of the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra. That being said, gender disparity remains evident in the profession. Ms. Yip will discuss this phenomenon on a global level, the challenges and opportunities faced by female conductors nowadays and her thoughts on music and life.

Gordon Cheung (b. 1975, London) received his Bachelor of Arts from Central Saint Martins in 1998, and his Master of Art from Royal College of Art in 2001. As a mid-career artist, Cheung will be sharing insight on his creative process, and how it has developed into his current series of work, which will be exhibited in ‘Home’, his debut solo show in Hong Kong. Working with mixed media, Cheung will discuss the correlation between the materials and themes in his work, which often references historical and current events in relation to the social, political, and economic developments in the world. Galerie Koo is delighted to present Mieko NOGUCHI– an established Japanese glass sculptor, first solo exhibition in Hong Kong. Opening Reception starts off at 6:00pm till 8:30pm on November 15th, Thursday at Galerie Koo; finger food and drinks will be served. The exhibition features a collection of mesmerising glass sculptures from the series ’10^x m’, which focus on the origin of life and the changes of position on every power of 10m^2 by applying the relationship of the world as the stage and the life form living there to the concept of “magnitude”. Extracting the mysterious elements from an ordinary scene of an ordinary day and recreating it, the changing patterns of the sky, the ripple marks that repeatedly appear and disappear, the peculiar living beings. The universe that is thousands and millions of miles away, has a transcendent beauty that is immeasurable with one’s mind. The principle of the universal source which runs through everything is reflected in NOGUCHI’s eyes and the great trajectory created by that principle projects into her imagination as a story.

“Ceci n ́est pas” or “This is not” is the final group of works from the three part series, which began with Miguel Vallinas’ “Skins.” It is true that “Ceci n’est pas” is the logical extension of the previous bodies of work in which the artist deconstructs the human, beginning with reality and evolving towards surrealism. Compared to the previous collections, these photographs demonstrate a physical separation between the body and the head, which has been replaced by inanimate objects.

French Chinese artist Alixe Fu (born in Taiwan in 1961) is the representative of post-expressionism in 21st century. Alixe had his first solo exhibition in 1983. He then moved to France as an artist since 1987. Living in France for many years enables Fu to flexibly master the artistic expression technique of western modernism. He had over forty solo exhibitions took place in Paris, New York, Beijing, France, Japan, and Taiwan, etc. including Museum of Contemporary Art Taipei, Taipei Fine Arts Museum, Beijing Today Art Museum, France Blois Chateau and Museum and Auvers Chateau and Museum, as well as the the Grand Palais and the George Pompidou Center. His works were collected by public and private museums from France, Japan, China, Taiwan and so on.

Noguchi for Danh Vo: Counterpoint presents art and design works by the celebrated modern sculptor Isamu Noguchi (American, 1904–1988) in dialogue with work by Danh Vo (Danish, born Vietnam, 1975). For this exhibition, M+ collaborates closely with Vo—one of the most critically acclaimed artists today—and the Isamu Noguchi Foundation and Garden Museum, New York, on the selection and installation of Noguchi’s wide-ranging work. This collaboration offers a new reading and, at the same time, defines a new relationship between the two artists. The exhibition unfolds in the M+ Pavilion gallery as well as the surrounding outdoor spaces, creating an open environment that allows for conversation between Noguchi and Vo, and the public.
